We woke up at 4 am to get to the city by 6 for my cath placement. I expected this to be an easy one and done thing, but it ended up being an hour of being uncomfortable and getting many lidocaine shots in my neck. When I left the room it was still very sore, but it’s a tube in my neck so of course it’s not going to feel great.
I went to the blood center right after having it placed. They did some blood work to check platelettes and come up with a prediction for how many stem cells I would get. My platelettes were actually pretty high- and I was expected to harvest 30 million stemmies!
I watched two movies on Netflix and I had filled half a bag of stem cells. The machine takes your blood from the vascath, filters out stem cells, and gives your blood back to you, it was amazing to watch.
I was just unhooked from the machine and my nurse checked my platelettes which still looked good. Now we’re just waiting to see how many stem cells I collected before we take out the catheter (so excited to get this thing out of my neck).
** update almost 24 million stem cells!
